Established in 1992, the World Heritage Centre (WHC) is a standing body of the UNESCO headquartered in Paris of France, and also the Secretariat of the World Heritage Committee. The Centre is responsible to ensure the day-to-day management of the Convention, provide consultations to state parties in the preparation of heritage nomination, assist and coordinate within/between states parties and advisory bodies for all matters related to World Heritages, provide advice to the World Heritage Committee, implement decisions of the Committee, and cooperate with other UNESCO divisions and offices.
Major tasks:
a)-To organise the annual sessions of the World Heritage Committee and Sates Parties;
b)-To implement decisions of the Committee and the resolutions passed on sessions of states parties, and submit to the Committee and sessions reports on implementation;
c)-To receive and register documents for nomination, and check their integrity before archived and submitted to relevant advisory bodies;
d)-To coordinate researches and events so as to strengthen the global strategy of the representative, balanced and creditable World Heritage List;
e)-To organise to carry out periodic reporting and reactive monitoring;
f)-To coordinate international assistance;
g)-To appropriate extra-budgetary fund for the protection and management of world heritages;
h)-To assist States Parties to implement the programmes and projects of the Committee;
i)-Through information released by state parties, advisory bodies and the public, promote the protection of world heritages, and raise awareness of the Convention.
In order to fulfill these tasks mentioned above, the Centre shall comply with the decisions and strategy of the Committee, the resolutions of the General Assembly/Conference, and cooperate closely with advisory bodies.
